Holidays in the Dolomites at Plan de Corones

Natural open spaces

Certain things never change. Like the beauty of the Dolomites.
The intact natural landscape, bountiful cultural treasures and traditions characterise this area. During your holiday in the Dolomites and at Plan de Corones you can discover the familiar and the unknown, combine the contrasts and feel the diversity. Anyone who has a love for the mountain giants and nature knows: It is not so much a place as a feeling – made to keep coming back.

“Some call it freedom.
We call it the Dolomite charisma.”

Your holiday in the Dolomites

They are the classics of the region, such as the Braies Lake, where the blue of the lake and the sky become one. Or the famous Tre Cime di Lavaredo (or Three Peaks), which have always enchanted hikers from around the world. These are places that empower, hidden away, off the beaten track. Places to find your inner-self surrounded by the stillness and to recharge your batteries so as to make it through the hustle and bustle of the fast-paced world.

A paradise that cannot be put into words.

The Dolomites | UNESCO-World Natural Heritage

The change from gentle alpine pastures with lush meadows to rugged, steep limestone cliffs are characteristic of the Dolomites and give an idea of how unique a holiday in the region can be. Formed from fossilised algae and coral reefs, they have become an attraction for active sports enthusiasts and nature lovers at any time of year. Hiking, climbing, mountain biking in summer and in the golden autumn, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, ski tours and skiing in winter. World-class panoramas are guaranteed on the more than one hundred three-thousand-metre peaks and smaller mountain giants.

Plan de Corones | Viewpoint between the main ridge of the Alps and the Dolomites

At the edge of the Dolomites, the majestic Plan de Corones rises 2,275 metres into the South Tyrolean sky. The cone-shaped massif is of volcanic origin and offers impressive 360-degree views: the Sasso della Croce, the Marmolada, the Sella massif, the Odle and Puez groups, the Sass de Putia, the Fanes group, the Braies Dolomites, the Brunico Basin and the Vedrette di Ries mountain group. Not only is it blessed with such panoramas, it is also famous as South Tyrol’s No. 1 ski mountain.

The nature parks | At the heart of natural wonders

There are eight designated and protected nature parks in South Tyrol. Four areas are part of the UNESCO World Natural Heritage of the Dolomites: Fanes-Sennes-Braies, Tre Cime di Lavaredo, Puez-Odle and Sciliar-Catinaccio. Our Mirabell Dolomites Hotel is located in the heart of the 25,453-hectare Fanes-Sennes-Braies nature park in Val Pusteria. The contrasting peaks and rock faces compliment the alpine pastures and plateaus, such as the Fanes and Sennes alpine pastures and the Prato Piazza, and numerous lakes, such as Dobbiaco Lake and Braies Lake.

If you look north from Mirabell, for example from our north-facing rooms & suites, you can admire the Monte Collalto (3,436 m) in all its majestic glacial splendour. Together with three other mountain giants of the Vedrette di Ries group, the Monte Nevoso (3,358 m), Collaspro and Monte Magro (each 3,273 m), it belongs to the Vedrette di Ries-Aurina nature park. There is also the lesser-known, but just as magical Lake Anterselva as well as numerous high alpine pastures, which turn out to be worthwhile destinations. In the nature parks you can get up close and personal with the fascination of the Dolomites and their impressive charms.
