Tradition and history
- 1946
Erna and Hermann Bacher build the Hotel Bacher in Valdaora in Pusteria Valley, a small hotel in Valdaora di Mezzo at Kronplatz.
- 1955/1956
On the occasion of the 1956 Olympics in Cortina D’Ampezzo, the hotel is rebuilt and goes down in history as the first hotel with running water in Pusteria Valley. The siblings Marlene and Edith Bacher follow in the footsteps of their parents. In 1968, Marlene continues to run the Hotel Bacher and Edith builds a new Bacher Guest House on inherited property.
1970
With passion and zeal, Edith runs the Guest House and, in 1970 with Johann Agstner, an expert baker and entrepreneur with in independent transport firm, establishes a family with four children: Michael, Christine, Peter and Judith. The Bacher Guest House is so successful that Johann Agstner abandons his business to fully support his wife Edith in the hospitality sector.
In 1972, they convert the Guest House into a 2 star hotel and call it Hotel Mirabell.
1972 – 1990
With the construction of the first covered swimming pool of a hotel in Pusteria Valley, the family demonstrates its pioneering spirit once again. In the following years, it is constantly extended, modified and renewed. All this leads first to 3 star standard and then a superior 3 star hotel with 32 rooms and 62 beds.
The former main Bacher property becomes the house next door, which is taken over by the Agstner family who, between 1986 and 1988, make the floor identical and completely rebuild it. In this way, it becomes the current Residence Bacher with a patisserie and 9 apartments.
Since 2000
The eldest daughter Judith is quick to recognise the trend towards wellness and the maintenance of wellness and takes the major step of becoming the first wellness hotel in South Tyrol – 4 star superior Hotel Mirabell Dolomiten Wellness Residenz with 60 rooms and suites.
The large sauna area with spa and ayurvedic treatment is considered an innovation in South Tyrol tourism.
The younger siblings, Christine and Peter, take care of their parents’ house, Residence Bacher. Michael – the youngest brother of the family and a sommelier – has worked with Judith Agstner in the hotel since 2007. Similarly, parents Johann and Edith are still part of the hotel’s established team. Edith takes care of the floral decoration and special environment with dedication and Johann ensures that everything works without hitches.
In 2012, the hotel became a 5 star in South Tyrol – the first in Pusteria Valley – which was the next milestone that Judith achieved, with the support of the family and the team.
