Our heart’s desire

Charles Baudelaire, one of the most important French poets of his time, once said: “There is no greater pleasure than surprising a person by giving him more than he expected.”

We feel the same way: every day we strive to give our guests countless moments of happiness. So that they all find a holiday home from home with us in the Dolomites, where they can be themselves and where their souls can simply unwind. The warm connection with our guests and employees and the experience of our traditional hospitality is a matter close to our hearts.

Happiness
and courage
Greatness is not achieved in one day

… but with heart, courage and a large portion of passion, great things can be achieved.
And so the history of our house is shaped: by small and large “bursts of courage”, innovative ideas and the constant desire to create a very special place. Then, as now.

Milestones and pioneering spirit

Only one year after the Second World War, Erna and Hermann Bacher built a small hotel in Valdaora, which went down in post-war history as the first hotel in the Val Pusteria with running water. The daughters of the hotelier couple, Marlene and Edith, had the hospitality gene in their blood, which is why it was not surprising that they follow in their parents’ footsteps.

In 1968, daughter Edith set up the new Dependance Bacher, with husband Johann at her side to support her. In 1972, the Dependance became a three-star hotel, which would henceforth bear the name Mirabell. Another milestone: three stars became four, four became four stars superior.
The Mirabell becomes the first hotel with an indoor swimming pool in the Val Pusteria.

Fascination and vocation

The couple’s four children were involved in the running of the hotel from an early age. The eldest daughter Judith, however, was particularly fascinated by the hotel. Would she, too, continue the success story and ensure further milestones in the Mirabell’s history?

In 2000, daughter Judith took over the hotel and took it to a new level. The hotel was completely rebuilt, revitalised with a new spirit. A new start that bore fruit: the Mirabell became South Tyrol’s first wellness hotel, and just two years later is named the first five-star hotel in the Val Pusteria. In the meantime, brother Michael also started working at the hotel. And the next generation? It is already in the starting blocks. And will – in keeping with tradition – create further milestones.
